CHICAGO TRIBUNE ARTICLE: "SWEATIN' TO THE REALLY OLDIES"

Feb 2, 2010 -- "The conference room was packed with fitness professionals looking for the latest thing to bring home to their health clubs and senior centers. But instead of yoga mats and dumbbells lining the floor, everyone was outfitted with just one thing: a conductor's baton.

When the music cranked up, it wasn't techno or hip-hop, but Sousa and Strauss. And leading it all was David Dworkin, a 75-year-old New York-based conductor and clarinetist who retired from a life of international performance and came up with Conductorcise — a one-hour aerobics-style class that blends conducting with music appreciation."

CONDUCTORCISE NAMED ONE OF NORTH AMERICA’S
MOST INNOVATIVE ACTIVE AGING PROGRAMS

Bedford Hills, NY, October 5, 2008 -- The International Council on Active Aging has just chosen David Dworkin’s popular new fitness fusion, CONDUCTORCISE®, as one of North America's six most innovative active aging programs. This comes on the heels of a stellar season including feature segments on NBC’s Today Show and New Jersey Network Television, as well as tours throughout the US, including a stop in New York City for its Summer Streets program.

CONDUCTORCISE® has traveled far and wide in live programs across America since it began just a few years ago. Called “a symphony performance, music history lesson, and aerobics workout all rolled into one” by The Times-Picayune of New Orleans, CONDUCTORCISE® has excited and intrigued audiences from coast to coast. Dworkin has successfully brought his program to people of all ages, from pre-school children and teenagers to healthy seniors and those in assisted-living facilities, as well as stroke and Alzheimer’s patients. Combining the musical, educational, and aerobic, CONDUCTORCISE® gets participants enthused about classical music, and keeps them engaged, thinking, and in motion.

During Dworkin‘s distinguished career as a clarinetist and conductor, he has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra, Manhattan School of Music Symphony, Vermont Symphony, and many others, and was music director for three PBS television documentaries in the series Grow Old With Me: The Poetry of Aging and for the CBS-TV production of Kurt Weill’s Three Penny Opera.

The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) is dedicated to changing the way people age by uniting professionals in the retirement, assisted living, fitness, rehabilitation and wellness fields to dispel society's myths about aging.
